Blister damages to Carbon sealing surfaces

Cooling compressors are facing increased requirements and the end users were suffering repeated blister damages to the Carbon sealing surfaces. The use of solid Silicon Carbide seal faces was an interim solution, however end users were requesting a shrink fitted version combining best properties of the Silicon Carbide and stainless steel. As the cooling compressors were used in pairs with one being idle, the shaft seal had to cope with full gas pressure applied without suffering from leakage.
