Cooling compressors are facing increased requirements and the end users were suffering repeated blister damages to the Carbon sealing surfaces. The use of solid Silicon Carbide seal faces was an interim solution, however end users were requesting a shrink fitted version combining best properties of the Silicon Carbide and stainless steel. As the cooling compressors were used in pairs with one being idle, the shaft seal had to cope with full gas pressure applied without suffering from leakage. A shrink fitted design with a flatness not affected by applied pressure was verified initially through calculations but also in the test lab. The overall performance have met the customer expectations and are now used widely across the complete range.

An OEM customer required gas lift-off seals for a sour gas compressor. However, available cavity was to small for a standard solution to be fitted.
Through creative design work and extensive calculations, as well as verification in our test laboratory, a unique double gas lift-off seal was designed to meet the existing cavity requirement, as well as the specific operating conditions.
